Wiki2Tex

About the program

The tool Wiki2TeX is an open source software (published under the CC-GNU GPL) to convert documents in the wiki format used by sites such as wikidot.com into LaTeX-files. A graphical user interface enables the user to to enter Wiki-code, load external files for conversion or start stack conversions for several files, and save the output in the form of uncompiled LaTeX files. The program is platform independent and can run under various operating systems using the QT class library.

Getting started

The main window holds of the program holds two text fields. The left one, the Wiki text field, is for typing and displaying text in wiki style whereas the right one, the TeX text field, only shows the converted file. Type in wiki text directly or open a wiki file by using "File->Open". The file content will be displayed in the Wiki text field. You may now apply some changes or start the conversion right away by "Edit->Convert" or the shortcut "Ctrl+Return". The converted tex file will now appear in the TeX field. It can be saved using the using the "File->Save" command. Try converting the example file from the download section, which includes all Wiki commands currently conerted by the software.

Use the "Edit->Stack Conversion" command to convert multiple files. A dialog will open in which the files to convert can be chosen. Then choose a main file Main File. This file will contain the TeX header. All other files will be converted to TeX files without a header and may be included in the Main File. Unless the output directory is changed manually the output will be written to the same directory as the main file. (Hint: If you are using wikidot.com and the document you want to convert consists of several files it may be advantageous to use wikidots backup functionality to download all files at once.)

To change settings of the program check out "Edit->Options". It will open a dialog which allows you change the Tex header and the handling of headings. The fields author, title and date set the equivalent option in the TeX header. You can include some common Tex packages by checking them.
